Why the built-in options are frustrating
Windows and macOS can both put more than one photo on a page. They work, but they give you a fixed set of templates rather than real control — and that is exactly where people get stuck.

The most common complaint: Windows sorts the pictures by file name, so the only way to change the printing order is to rename your files. Below, you just drag the thumbnails.
How to print multiple pictures on one page in Windows 11
- Open File Explorer (Win + E) and go to the folder holding your photos.
- Hold Ctrl and click each photo you want, or press Ctrl + A to take the whole folder.
- Right-click one of the selected photos and choose Print. This opens the classic Print Pictures window.
- Select your printer and paper size on the right, then pick a layout such as Contact Sheet, 4×6 or Wallet.
- Click Print.
You can reach the same window from the Photos app — select the photos there, press Ctrl + P and open the layout settings.
Limits: you cannot choose your own grid, margins or spacing, and the photos come out in file-name order. To choose “Microsoft Print to PDF” as the printer instead, use the dropdown in the same window.

How to print multiple pictures on one page on a Mac
- In Finder, select the photos — drag across them, or Cmd-click to pick individual ones.
- Double-click the selection so they all open in one Preview window. The sidebar shows a thumbnail per photo.
- Choose File > Print (⌘P).
- If the window looks bare, click Show Details at the bottom left. This is the step most people miss — without it the Layout section is simply not visible.
- Expand Layout, open Pages per Sheet, and choose 2, 4, 6 or 9.
- Pick a Layout Direction, check the preview, then click Print.
Heads up: in Preview every photo counts as one “page”. So if you set Pages per Sheet to 4, twenty photos come out as five printed pages — you cannot tell it to leave the last page partly empty with your own spacing. Margin and gap control isn't available either.

How to print multiple pictures on one page in Microsoft Word
Word is the best built-in option when you need precise placement, because a table gives you a real grid.
- Open Word and start a blank document.
- Go to Layout > Margins and choose Narrow (or set your own).
- Insert a table with the grid you want: Insert > Table > 2 × 2, for example.
- Select the whole table, then on the Table Layout tab set an exact Height for the rows and an exact Width for the columns. This is what keeps the photos evenly sized instead of stretching to fit whatever they contain.
- Click into each cell and use Insert > Pictures > This Device to place a photo. It is cropped to the cell automatically.
- File > Print. Check that Settings says Print All Pages and that the preview shows everything on one sheet, then print — or save the document as a PDF first with File > Save As.
Limits: getting the pictures to fill each cell evenly means resizing them one by one, and Word re-flows content onto a second page if your rows are even a millimetre too tall.
How to print multiple pictures on one page from a phone
iOS Photos can only print one photo at a time — there is no grid option in the share sheet. So the usual route is to combine the photos first, then print that single image.
- Open this page in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).
- Add your photos using the tool above and set up the page.
- Tap Download PDF. It saves to the Files app on iPhone, or Downloads on Android.
- Open the PDF and share it to your printer app — or use AirPrint straight from the Files app.
If you would rather stay inside Google Photos on Android: select the photos, tap Create > Collage, then print the saved collage.
Getting a good result
- Match the paper to the job. Use photo paper rather than plain paper whenever the pictures matter — it is the single biggest change you can make.
- Check the resolution before you commit. Aim for about 300 pixels per inch at the final printed size; anything less will look soft no matter which tool you use.
- Turn on “Fit whole photo” for documents and IDs. Cropping happens silently, and a cropped ID is unusable.
- Leave oxygen around your photos. A 10 mm margin and a 5 mm gap reads far better than photos jammed edge to edge.
- Print one test page. Ink and printers vary, and one sheet is cheap insurance before a run of twenty.
